In,afterthreeyearsofmastersstudyinoneofthebestuniversitiesinChina(HuazhongAgriculturalUniversity),Iwasabouttoreturnhome,butthemeetingwithateacherwillchangethecourseofmystory.ProfessorZhouDeyifromthecollegeofeconomicsandmanagementatHuazhongAgriculturalUniversityproposedtomeadirectionofresearchthatwouldnottaketimetochangemymind.Indeed,hisresearchinterestbasicallyonSino-Africacooperationinagriculturalaidunderthecross-culturalbackgroundtacklesmorethantopicalsubjects.Betterstill,hispractice-basedresearchmethodismorethaninnovativeinthisareaofsocialscience.So,Icouldnotremainindifferenttosuchaproposal.Thisishowajourneyoffiveyearsofresearch,cooperation,friendship,andsociallifebeganwiththeutmostdiscretion,asitisalsothenatureofthisquiteexceptionalprofessor.

Mypractice-basedlearningbegunwithatrainingorganizedbyprofessorZhouinthecontextofChina-AfricaAgriculturalCooperation.Theinitiativecalled“farmersplusfarmersmodel”wherefarmersfromMozambiquecametoChinaandhavedirectinteractionwithChinesefarmerswasbasedonthelearningbydoingapproach.Whentheyreturnhome,theytriedtospreadtheskillsandknowledgetheygotfromChina.Mostimportantly,thisinitiativehelpedsomeofthemtostarttheirownbusinessandhelplocalpeople.Beforetheaforementionedpractice-basedexperience,professorZhouDeyialsoinitiatedamicro-financetohelplocalfarmerstostartabusinessinagriculture.Thismicro-financehelpsthemtobuyinputsandimprovetheirproductivityUntiltodaythismicro-financeisstillrunningandtheoperatingmodelis
